Show NATIONS PLAN TO RECOGNIHBELS BRITISH ADMIRAL'S CALL' ON GENERAL GONZALES THOUGHT TO BE SIGNIFICANT. Regarded as Possible That United States May Recognize Rebel Government, Gov-ernment, Feeling That Huerta Government is Doomed. Washington. It seems to be the opinion of the state department that the action of the British ? jmiral. Sir Christopher Cradock, and his entire staff, in making a formal call on the constitutionalist general, Gonzales, may be regarded as a recognition by Great Britain of the belligerency ot the constitutionalists. A similar step on the part of the United States is expected, by some people, within a. few days. The failure of Huerta to explain the fate of Consul Silliman, Correspondent Corre-spondent Doster and Private Parks has brought about a situation so acute that orders for the embarkation of more troops at Galveston for Vera Cruz are expected at any moment. The probable recognition by Great Britain of the belligerency of the constitutionalists con-stitutionalists is of great significance, particularly in view of the fact that Greta Britain was one of the foreign nations to recognize Huerta in the first instance. The loss of Tampico and Tuxpam, the latter being credited as reliable news, makes it all the more useless, in the view of advisers of the president, presi-dent, for Huerta to endeavor to temporize tem-porize by suggesting terms to the United States. |
