Show ADRIFT AT SEA IN OPEN BOAT. Survivors of Wrecked Steamer Rescued Res-cued After Thirteen Days of Suffering. Halifax, N. S. After thirteen days of terrific suffering in an open boat adrift at sea, five survivors of the freight steamer Columbian were picked pick-ed up in the north Atlantic by the United States revenue cutter Seneca on Sunday. The men were all too near death to tell of their hardships Eleven other of the boat's crew which left the Columbian when she was burned just south of Saole island on May 3, had succumbed to injuries and privations and their bodies had been thrown overboard. Tie death roll of the lost freighter now stands at fifteen. Twenty-seven other members of the crew were saved by the Cunard liner Franconia and the steamer Manhattan after two days' exposure. |
