Show McKee to Serve On State PTA Board Kane and Garfield counties will be fully represented at State level PTA with the recent appointment of Debra McKee of Panguitch as Regional Director for the area. Mrs. McKee's appointment was recommended by Supt. Henry Jolley, Garfield County School District, and ratified by state PTA president Gail Judd, her president-elect, and five state vice-presidents. She will represent Escalante Elementary, Bryce Valley High School, Panguitch Elementary, Panguitch Middle School, Panguitch High School, Kanab Elementary and Kanab High School. The appointment necessitates travel to Salt Lake City every two months for a two-day session with state officers and regional directors from all over Utah. The first day of each session is spent first with a joint regional directors' meeting in the morning and the afternoon for Mrs. McKee is taken up with the individual development commission on which she serves as a member, meeting with the state chairman of that group. The following day's activities begin with a general state business meeting where the 19 regional directors meet with seven state officers to discuss national PTA programs, write proposals for presentation at the state convention, and otherwise conduct state business. The group is currenty studying the proposal to create a Third Board of Regents to govern vocational education which has come under controversy in the state and heard a representative from the State Board of Education speak in behalf of the proposal. They expect also to near from Governor Scott Matheson regarding his position on the proposal. While at the two-day seminars, the regional directors recieve in-depth leadership training and the directors return to their areas assuming responsiblity for training PTA presidents in their regions. On the agenda for local PTA s are Critical Issues workshops, the first to be concerned with Discipline in the School. One workshop will be held in Garfield County, the other in Kane County, tentatively set for January. Mrs. McKee, excited about her appointment, said she enjoyed the sessions in Salt Lake City because they were stimulating and increased her knowledge of how PTA can better function to accomplish the most. She looks forward to working with officers of local organizations over a long period. Her appointment to the office is for an indefinite period of time since there is no local council. |
