Show Ice Fishing Newest Garfield Sport Ice fishing will be the newest winter sport at Panguitch Lake now that clearance has been received from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. Earlier this year Panguitch Lake resort owners and residents petitioned the DWR to permit ice fishing on the frozen lake during the winter months. Norman McKee, DWR conservation .Cfticer,. announced this week the in elusion of the Panguitch Lake site as legal for ice fishing under the division's newest proclamation. Garfield County officials were informed last week of the DWR decision. The DWR board met in Salt Lake City November 12 with Reo Thompson, manager of the Deer Trail Lodge at Panguitch Lake, and Rick Bumingham and Frank Houston, representing Panguitch City, attending. This year's ice fishing season will be conducted on a trial basis by the DWR to determine if sufficient interest exists to warrant a permanent status. The DWR board announced that a special Panguitch Lake stamp will be designed and printed. County commissioners hope to have some input in the design of the stamp which will sell for $5 and must be purchased in addition to the stnadard fishing license. Ice fishermen will be permitted five fish per day under the stamp. The season for ice fishing is set from January 1 through March 15 1982, with the regular season set from May 29 through November 30. Panguitch Lake resort owners and Panguitch City businessmen recently joined with resort owners from Brian-Head and business owners from Parowan and Cedar City along with the Utah Department of Transportation and officials of Garfield and Iron Counties in committing to finance the winter maintenance of access roads to both resort areas and the road connec- -ting the two. |
