Show Are cartoons: good or bad? ft i?: ii&M - f- j T.JZjjt $0ZZD Sty Students from Mrs. Lisa Denny's De-nny's English class at Centerville Junior High School, wrote to us to share their opinions on how they feel certain cartoons affect children. chil-dren. Three of the letters are printed here. To the Editor: I wish channel 5, KSL, would decide to show the cartoon series of the 'Garbage Pail Kids.' I think they are not that bad. I am 12 years old, so I see the cards all the time and I like them. If channel 5 does not want the little kids to see it, then they could put it on late, like at 1 1 p.m. I think adults and kids should look at the cards as something funny, not yucky little kids. I know that some people think that they are inappropriate. Some kids might use them to make fun of other kids; they should not be used that way. They are just funny fun-ny cards to look at and trade around. Brandon Evan son, 12 To the Editor: I know that KSL, channel 5, decided not to run the cartoon series of the 'Garbage Pail Kids' because it is a bad influence on kids. Well, I think that KTVX, channel 4, should take 'MadBalls' off the air. It is so stupid. The heads pop off and so kids that are watching do different things to try and make their heads come off. My little brother jumps off the bed with a rope around yis head to try and get his head to pop off. The little kids see these things on TV, and then try to be like them and dress like them. I think it is a bad influence. Travis Spencer, 12 To the Editor: I think that some cartoons are a bad influence on kids. 'Madballs,' which is shown on channel 4, is an example of this and should be taken off the air. I know kids that imitate these Madballs, by putting ropes around their heds and jumping jump-ing off things, to see if their heads will come off too. It's hard to believe be-lieve that a cartoon, that is supposed sup-posed to be funny, could get away with killing someone. Some kids don't know that what they see on TV is really bad for them; they will really go try and do it. I think TV should be a good influence, especially because kids, myself included, watch so much of it. Ryan Wilkins, 12 |
