| Show HIGH LICENSE The county seems to be having some trouble on the whiskey high license That the license is high is admitted by all it was the intention of the County Court to make it so and up to this point they have been firm > e The object has been to place the saloon and liquor business somewhat within the control the public We trust it will in part at least be kept there There is scarcely a road crossing in the county upon which there is not a saloon or place of entertainment If one rides drives in the lanes around our town he is constantly con-stantly in fear and danger of being accosted by drunken and boisterous revellers and the revelling of a Saxon usually ends in a display of brutality The fumes of whiskey in the county rise higher and float farther than the smoke from the smelter stacks We remember the time when Howards was the only resort on the State Road We also remember when once driving a team from the South to this city to have had pur team stopped by a young boy halloing to us We enquired the cause and the boy told usthat his father lay in the road in the agonies of death They had both been entertained at How ards and the father while sitting on the hounds of his wagon had leaned upon the stake and his head had fallen between that and the wheel and been battered to jellyNo No keep the license high and dont fear for the county revenue and especially especial-ly for the officers salaries We do not favor prohibition but we do favor regulation regu-lation Local laws and regulations should be respected and be enforced as well as national laws and ice versa The law is supreme and must be obeyed |
