Show f C J MARRYING A MATRICIDE The Kansas IVoman Who Poisoned I Her Mother for the Insurance I OSAGE Mission Kas August 12The trial I of Frankie Morris the divorced wife of A A Hard chief attorney for Kansas of the Atchison Topeka Santa Fe railway for the murder of her mother to obtain 15000 insurance on her life was concluded on Saturday Sat-urday evening and on Monday morning the I jury brought in a verdict of murder in the first degree Mrs Hurd was divorced from her husband in 1883 and a few months I after through Mrs Hurd a policy ater thronsh in the Mutual Life Insurance Com i of New York was obtained on J I puny Mrs Poinsett the mother of Miss Morris Poisett and not Mrs Hurd for 5000 formerly Hud 850 I long after this another policy for 10003 in Equitable Life Association the United I States was obtained The premiums on amounted to over 8100 a these two policies amouted I to plcies house year Mrs Poinsett kept a boarding but Hiss Morris had no source of income A few months after this last policy was obtained ths I tai ed M Poinsett and Miss Morris I moved from Cherryvale to Chanute in this county I In November 5 1884 to celebrate the 1 election of Cleveland a bottle of beer ort or-t malt was bought and Miss Morris gave her mother a glass which made her sick with all the symptoms of arsenical poisoning I I twenty days she died and was buried on the same day of her death There being some suspicions circumstances connected with the case tho Grand Jury investigated the matter and brought in a bill Miss Morris was arrested I ar-rested in Winfield where she had brought snit on the policies and during last week her trial has been in progress in the District Court Miss Morris is a finely educated and very preposessing woman over whom a number of men seem willing to sacrifice themselves Her former husband was present during the trial and did all in his power to save her from her pending doom It was the theory of the prosecution that Mrs Poinsett was murdered as tho result of a conspiracy between be-tween Frankie Morris and others to obtain the insurance Every effort will be made to save her yet but there seems to be very lit tle probability of a successful outcome of the attempt KANSAS CITY Mo August 12The convicted con-victed matricide was married last Saturday evening to Harry D Copeland of Wichita |
