Show A COMPLAINT Some complaint is being made because there WITC no Mormons to speak atthj memorial exercises at the Park last Saturday Professor Lewis name was among the speakers originally but was stricken off and that of Hon John T Caine substituted Delegate Caine declined de-clined to speik and we think very properly a id for this reason Mr Caine is the Delegate to on reds from the Territory to pace his name on the list as a substitute was an act of discourtesy dis-courtesy and out of selfrespect Mr i Caine could not do otherwise than he did I If Mr Caines name was not placed upon the list in the first instance it nhould not have been placed there at all Whether it was an oversight on the part of the Committee of Arrangements is iinmate1 rial But while Mr Caine had just and proper grounds for refusing to speak when his name had been placed upon the j list as a substitute surely that is no I ground for Mayur Sharp to refuse to participate par-ticipate in the exercises The Committee must certainly have known as much about Professor Lewis when they placed j his name upon the list of speakers as when they took it oft The whole I liFair so far as Delegate Caine and Professor Lewis are concerned looks like a piece of bungling on the part of the Committee while the action of the Mayor looks like captiousness captious-ness One cannot but wonder whether there will ever come a time in Utah when there will not be quarrelling even over so solemn a matter as memorial exercises for the dead The presumption is that such a time will never come |
