Show Stylists attend conference )t k ) A v Y - : LAYTON -- The style directors of one of northern Utah's largest beauty salon-cosmetology schools have recently returned from what's considered the nation's largest hair style and beauty show. ' LINDA Bitter, styles director,' and Teresa Everett Reeve, assistant assis-tant styles director for Fran Brown and Company College of Beauty and Hair Styling Salons, attended the West Coast Spring Style and Beauty Show in San Francisco. : The two oversee educational needs for a staff of 35 at salons in Kaysville, Layton and Clearfield and the College of Beauty-Career Center in Layton. ; UPWARDS of 13.000 attended the confab where many well-known well-known style leaders in the nation gave classes. Those included Yosh: Paul Mitchell, the Sassoon team. Jingles stylists and the Bernard Ber-nard Christian team, among others. : "It was fabulous there were so many things going on," said Mrs. Bitter. "I've never seen so many hair stylists in one place." BOTH SHE and Mrs. Reeve were able to attend a variety of classes as well as observe some of the top stylists, makeup teams and others, in what could be compared in the clothing design world to a trip to Paris or Milan. : Stressing a need to keep current in hairstyling and related areas, Mrs. Reeve said "Utah is quite current with the national trends. Through the media, particularly, people are picking up on styles so much quicker, and wearing them." AND AS Mrs. Bitter noted of cosmetology's image among the public, "hairstylists are no longer looked down upon. It's now very upgraded. We deal a lot with ser- LINDA BITTER vice aimed at pleasing the clientele." clien-tele." Both women are veterans in their field. MRS. BITTER attended the old Robert Steur College of Beauty in Salt Lake City, graduating in 1972. She worked at a shop in Anchorage, Anchor-age, Alaska, and started working with Fran Brown in May, 1976, when Fran's first salon opened in Kaysville. She managed Fran's shops for five years, took some time off to devote to her family and has been back for three years. She coordinates educational classes for the staff, often teaching them, in topics such as advanced haircutting. She has "always been interested in hair, from dolls to cats" and attended cosmetology school following graduation from Ogden High School. She is based at the Layton salon. SHE AND her husband, Kenyon, have three children and live in Clin- TERESA EVERETT REEVE ton. She is the daughter of Fred and LaRue Wayment, now of Layton. Mrs. Reeve has been associated with- Fran Brown's for about five years but worked as a hairdresser for 14, starting beauty school "as soon as it was legal" at age 16. She holds a state-certified teaching license and while based in the Clearfield salon, also teaches as well as working "behind the chair six-seven hours a day." A SUNSET native, she graduated from Clearfield High School and then attended Painter's Beauty School in Ogden where Fran Brown was then an instructor. Mrs. Reeve supervised operations at Painter's for five years. ' She and her husband Paul are parents of two children and live in West Point. SHE VIEWED the San Francisco Francis-co show as another way to "keep on top" in the fast-changing cosmetology cos-metology world. |
