Xayyo (pronounced Sayo) didn't know the excitement of being a photographer - until the Spring Floods of 1983 rushed past his Bountiful home. "THAT'S WHEN I really got interested in-terested in taking pictures," says Boone. "Until then, I was too busy getting adjusted to the American way of life." Now that Boone, whose parents and grandparents are Chinese, is settled with the Dan Davidson Family, 739 E. 200 North, Bountiful, Bounti-ful, he spends nearly all his waking hours looking through a lense-finder lense-finder or processing film and developing de-veloping prints in his home-darkroom. home-darkroom. BOONE IS the high school photographer - for the yearbook, school newspaper, school activities, activi-ties, or whatever else. If it moves at BHS, Boone will "shoot" it. Born in Laos, Boone spent 2'2 years in a small refuge camp in the village of Ubon before immigrating to the United States and to Bountiful Bounti-ful in March 1980. "EVEN THEN I didn't have any interest in photography," says Boone. "I moved for a short time to California with my family, but wanted to return to Bountiful where I had made friends and was graphy class under John Stauffer. "I took a lot of pictures and studied every photography book 1 could get my hands on," he said. As a junior he was yearbook photographer and this year he has assisted in most every photography photogra-phy assignment the school has had to offer. NOW THINGS are beginning to pay off. Boone is state winner of the Photopraphy Division of the State Parent-Teacher Association-sponsored Association-sponsored Reflections Contest. His entry has been submitted for national judging against the top high school photographers in the United States. HE HAS been offered a full-time tuition scholarship to the University Universi-ty of Utah and is a finalist for a tuition scholarship at Weber State College. An avid stamp and coin collector, collec-tor, Boone also enjoys outdoor sports of hiking, camping and fishing as well as playing volleyball, vol-leyball, tennis and racquetball. AFTER GETTING off to a talented beginning in photography, Boone was asked his ultimate goal in life. "To be a staff photographer of a large magazine -- especially National Na-tional Geographic," he said with a smile. AND HE just might make it. BOONE S.
