Vykelles set concert VIEWMONT- "Illusions." the 1985-86 dance concert performed by the Viewmont High Vykelles. will be held May 3. 5 and 6 in the Viewmont High auditorium. THE VYKELLES are a combination combina-tion dance company and drill team, under the direction of Bonnie Pierce. They have performed all year at halftimes during football and basketball, at school assemblies, assemb-lies, in parades, in competition and of course during this, their annual spring concert. Mrs. Pierce says the concert will be "a dance program suited for the entire family. It features many styles of dance, from ballet, modern mod-ern and jazz to lyrical and humorous." SHE SAYS most pieces are student stu-dent choroegraphed, with students in charge of auditions, costumes, lighting, sets and props. Rehearsals Rehear-sals are the responsibility of each group of students performing. The concert will also feature guest choroeographers and performances per-formances by the Intermediate and Advanced dance classes, plus the men faculty at Viewmont. Tuesday night's performance will be highlighted high-lighted by the traditional father-daughter father-daughter ballroom dance, Mrs. Pierce adds. THE VYKELLES have had a very successful year, taking first place in Region Four competition and finishing second in state. They were recently invited to compete in Japan and perform in New Zealand. Zea-land. New York and at the 1986 Freedom Bowl in Anaheim. "This is our biggest event of the year, and it will provide great entertainment," en-tertainment," Mrs. Pierce says. She adds that having a combined dance-drill program has many advantages for her students, among them a wide range of learning learn-ing experiences, exposure to the arts, many performing opportunities, opportuni-ties, strengthening of technical efficiency effi-ciency in all areas of dance, fostering foster-ing of creativity and responsibility, and strengthening of both programs. prog-rams.
