Show Cub Talk By Grant Woodward Finally, after twelve years without any participation in the state playoffs, Salt Lake City schools were at last permitted to take part this year. When speaking speak-ing of Salt Lake City schools it is " meant the team which will be the champ of the Big Three loop. There has been a great deal of talk about the City schools entering enter-ing into the state competition for years, but it was not until just recently that permission was granted for such a move. This permission was granted by the Board of Education after a special meeting which was held in order to determine whether or not the "City Champs" should be allowed to participate. Since the City schools withdrew from state competition 12 years ago, they have been trying to get back in, but of course after the withdrawal it was thought that the Big Three schools were no longer interested. This has been the chief difficulty in getting the consent of the Board for our participation par-ticipation again. The Board recently had decided to postpone their final decision on the matter until its next meeting which would have been too late to enter into the playoffs. Somehow, after a great deal of criticism and East high beating Carbon, 81-0, the board of education decided to hold a special meeting. At this meeting, Albert G. Zenger, who is a member of the Board and has supported athletics to the limit, secured the necessary majority to put the move over. As yet, there is no winner in the City race. Today will bring forth the winner and the winner will participate in the State play, offs. East has beaten South's "A" squad once this season and should they win again they will be the team to compete in the playoffs. However, if South should win, a means by which a "champ" is picked will have to be devised because both teams will have lost one and won one. Regardless of the team who wins the Championship, the City ' schools should be kept in the State Association. It is not only for football, but basketball and other sports as well that these state playoffs are held. The competition com-petition and honor offered to City teams by this move is the reason they are eager to participate. I "A" TEAM ALL CITY 1st Team 2nd Team i W. Wilkinson ..e Keddington S. S.
