Show Spanish Study Entices Cubs For the first time in the history his-tory of South high school the students stu-dents engaged in Spanish studies have been brought to a closer realization of the importance of mastering to the best of their ability this language. The effects that this global war will make on the post-war period has made this so, according to Mrs. Hickman, Spanish teacher. In a class discussion, students gave their reasons for taking Spanish, and how they think they will benefit by it. One draft age student's views are that Spanish will help him in almost any branch of the armed forces he goes into. Another student said, "During the post-war period, our commercial commer-cial relations with South America will require a great number of Spanish-speaking personnel to act as representatives in South America Am-erica for companies in the United States." Many students are looking look-ing forward to trips through South America made possible by highways now being built for motor mo-tor commerce. Mrs. Hickman concluded that we cannot obtain the South American's Am-erican's confidence unless we are able to talk in his language, and that to be able to talk the language lan-guage and understand the customs of our neighbors to the South may aid ' in our obtaining a lasting peace. |
