Show Sen. Jake Garn appoints five to military academies By GARY R. BLODGETT Five high school students from Davis County have been appointed to the United States military academies by U.S. Senator Jake Garn (R-Utah). The five are from among 60 students statewide that were nominated on the basis of their ACT and SAT scores, high school transcripts and extra curricular activities. Names of the five local candidates will be forwarded to the academies for final selection. "The quality of these candidates is outstanding and I am pleased to nominate them as my 1988 selections," said Sen. Gam. Three were nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy, one to the Air Force Academy, and one to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, according to the senator. Nominated to the Naval Academy were Jason Richard Justice, Jus-tice, Bountiful; Nathan L. Niederhauser, Kaysville; and Andrew S. Thaeler, Layton. He also nominated Robert Steven Alles, Fruit Heights, to the Air Force Academy; and Sergio Jason DelHoyo, Bountiful, to the Merchant Marine Academy.
