Fifth graders at Symphony By CHERIE HUBER The fifth grades in Davis County will have the unique opportunity to become acquainted with the Utah ' Symphony Orchestra through a program of instruction and a visit to Symphony Hall to hear thei orchestra. I This program is provided by the Symphony Guild and uses local volunteers called docents. This year 23 schools in the district will participate in the program. Christopher Wilkins, associate conductor of the symphony, met with the docents March 15 and instructed in-structed them on the music of the program to be presented in Symphony Sym-phony Hall on April 19. The docents do-cents then visit the participating schools and instruct the fifth graders grad-ers on the music they will hear. Christopher Wilkins joined the Utah Symphony in 1986. He graduated gradu-ated from Harvard College with a degree in music in 1978 and received re-ceived his master's degree from Yale in 198 1 . He has been the guest conductor with many leading orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Dallas Dal-las Symphony. . During the 1986-87 season nearly half a million people heard Utah " Symphony performances including includ-ing over 73,000 children. The Utah Symphony's first season was 1940. |
