Show Local, County Red Cross Chairmen Urge Public Support The Sugar House Red Cross drive moved into high gear this week, according to Dale R. Curtis, chairman, as committee members mem-bers canvassed business houses in an effort to complete drive by .Saturday, March 13. An appeal was made earlier this week to the public of Salt Lake Countv to subscribe generously generous-ly to the 1948 Red Cross Fund drive. , The appeal was made by W. A., Huckins, chairman of the drive which hopes to attain a goal of $130,000 during the month. Heavy Snows Cause Delay Early returns in the drive show that the county is falling behind both the. state and the nation in support of the mercy organization. Only slightly over 825,000 has been subscribed with more than a week of solicitation past. Heavy snow during four of the days has caused some delays, de-lays, according to Mr. Huckins, and for that reason cooperation of the public is urged. With increased costs necessary for the same services, the Red Cross is still attempting to get bv with a small budget. The $130,000 sought for 1948 compares with $137,000 raise in 1947 when i lRGES SUPPORT Red Cross Chairman Dale R. Curtis plans to end local drive March 13. costs were lower. Service at All Times "The Red Cross," Mr. Huckins pointed out, "is constantly at the service of the veteran and the soldier, in the veterans hospitals, in the home and with the troops in many statons abroad. It is always there in time of disaster, such as this spring's floods in the midwest. The nation turns to the Red Cross every day the Red Cross to the nation only once a year." |
