Show Members of Sugar House Stake Active as Christmas Nears Merle is improving too. The different organizations are striving to help make this Christmas a joyous one by planning plan-ning outstanding programs. The Sunday School will start the week with a lovely one and they urge everyone to attend. Sacra- ment meeting in the evening will feature Marjoric Watson's homecoming and special music. Monday, the Primary will show off the children. And parents, they have worked hard You'll be glad you came out, I'm sure. Tuesday, promptly , at 7:30 the Mutual will climax the events with their contribution to this happy season. Addison Richie will touch your hearts with the magic of his voice, singing the Holy City and other beautiful numbers- Lynn McKinley will transport you to another Christmas Christ-mas with his readings and together to-gether with other musical treats the evening promises to be one long to be remembered. The Milky Way . . . that is the catch name for the new business venture of Joe, Art andOdess Record Sr. They promise prom-ise you something extra special in the way of hamburgers, chili, pies and other short lunch items in addition to all kinds of fountain foun-tain service. It opens up this week at 2585 South State St., and they invite all their friends to come down. Good luck to some very nice people. Twenty-three guests enjoyed a lovely evening and gifts were exchanged. June Brewer is president pres-ident of the stake board and Edith used to be her first counselor. coun-selor. Mrs. Seth Davis is planning a visit to Salem, Utah some time thia week to visit her folks and make plans for the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Banks are going to California the first of the year to be with their daughter daugh-ter Helen, when she marries Ijawrenco Herbstrlttl. She will be married by German Ellsworth, Ells-worth, president of the California Califor-nia Mission, on Jan. 11 in San Francisco. The Sugar House conjoint stake boards of M. I. A. are planning a gala affair in the form of a dinner part yat the Doll House. The entire plans are in the capable hands of Wilbur DaiiRi'rfield. The decorations are being made by Edith Snarr and Otilla Merrill. The main table ta-ble will be centered with a large cathedral lighted by red gobes, a yard of snow and ice - with greens will be surrounded by blue lights- The smaller tables will be decorated by green boughs and big lighted candles and the favors will be tiny candle can-dle lit logs. Dinner will be served serv-ed to 50 or GO guests. It isn't the older ones this this time, it's the Bee Hive Girls and a credit they are to the wards. Each group from the third year or Guardian groups as they are called, put on a one-act play last Friday night. Each was well prepared and enaced. The program was in charge of the Stake Bee Hive Committee ( Florence Beers conducting and a fine job she did too. La Vaughn Adklns helped a lot and a lovely plant was presented to Louella Anderson, the guiding light of event who is forced to ask for a release because of ill health. Musical numbers to fill you with that "Christmas" feeling began the Mutual's Christmas party last Tuesday. Appropri ate musical numbers were presented pre-sented in the chapel for the first hour and then a fine dance followed fol-lowed in the amusement hall. Santa Claus breezed into the dance and spent the evening getting acquainted with the Mutual Mu-tual members and he brought gifts for everyone. From Santa Fe, N.M., come greetings from Frank Jones, son Robert . Roser is the newest member of the First Quorum Elders presidency. He has recently re-cently been sustained as second counselor to Ray Garrett- Lester Jensen, 1911 View St., is still convalescing at this home from a fall suffered some time ago. It's been a slow process but we all hope to see him up and around again soon. Edna and Eugene Peterson have moved back into the ward and are making their home at 1209 East 21st South. By popular demand Mrs. Leah D. Widtsoe will return shortly after the first of the year to speak again to the special interest inter-est group in Mutual Let you know the exact date later. Dancing Club members had a wonderful time Thursday at their Christmas dance. Each of the ladies present was given a Christmas favor of two little bird figurines. The men were not forgotten this year either, for on the Christmas trees in the alcove there were hung "sugar plums" for all the men. For the Christmas program on Sunday evening Bryant S. Hinckley will be the guest speaker. Christmas music to suit the occasion has been planned. plan-ned. MARLBOROUGH WARD Members of Marlhnrnnfyh of Mrs. John B. Jones, 1936 South 13th East. Frank is serving a mission- He would like to be remembered to all his friends in the ward' and let. them know he is enjoying his mission and the best of health. Sorry to hear that two of the ward youngsters are ill. Both are suffering from rheumatic fever. Little Gladys Jean Banks daughter -of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Banks, 1948 Douglas St., has been in bed the past two weeks. Wally Winkler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Winkler, 1911 So. 13th East, is down with this disease dis-ease also. A speedy recovery is wished them both. Last Sunday evening was the the beginning of a series of "Firesides" sponsored by the Senior Scouts under the direction direc-tion of Kay Flinders. The 15-17 age group are urged to participate partici-pate in this event which will be held every two weeks. The first "Fireside" was held at the Wendell Wen-dell Osmond home on Hollywood Ave. After listening to a splendid talk by Lorenzo Hatch, the young people enjoyed homemade home-made ice cream and cookies. Virginia and Rodney Day are planning a Christmas party for their Sunday School class. It will be held Dec. 22 at their home, 1559 So. Eleventh East St. Ward had the privilege of hearing hear-ing Dr. C. Louis Jlorgenson of Ogden as their speaker in sacrament sac-rament service last Sunday evening. eve-ning. Heartiest "get well" wishes are extended to D. Bruce Myer. who suffered a heart attack recently. re-cently. His friends wish him the best and hope to see him up and around again soon. Choir members are going all out to prepare a Christmas cantata can-tata to Ije presented Sunday evening, eve-ning, Dec. 21. It is under the dircetion of Alvin H. Baker, ward chorister. RICHARDS WARD It's been a busy week in Richards Rich-ards Ward. Beginning Tuesday the ladies of the Relief Society enjoyed a Christmas party and program. Primary children enjoyed a Christmas party on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Mutual members, too, enjoyed a party during the week, keeping keep-ing alive the glow of the Christmas Christ-mas spirit. There will be no Primary next week. Tonight at 7:30 is the regular weekly-picture show. |
