Show NOTES FROM KEARNS Pvt. Joseph F. Hansen, son of J. F. Hansen of 522 Winsor street joined the Army Air Forces last July 1, and has recently been appointed ap-pointed an Aviation Cadet. He is at present stationed at Army Air Base, Kearns, for pre-flight training. Joseph was a pre-medical student stud-ent at . the University of Utah, with two years of study to his credit when he entered the service. ser-vice. He has two brothers who have been in the army for some time; Lieutenant Claude Hansen, was graduated fro Aviation Cadet Cad-et training early l.Ms year, and is now stationed in Texas and T Sergeant Glenn Hansen, now somewhere in England. The Kearns Flyers Basketball Basket-ball team will lift the lid on the 1943-44- season, Thursday evening, even-ing, December 16 when it tangles with the University of Utah at the new gymnasium here. First service . team to invade the Kearns Flyers gym will be Fort Douglas scheduled to exchange ex-change shots with the' Air Force basketeers Wednesdav evening, December 22. Plans for the Utah Service League Lea-gue were discussed at a meeting last week. Representatives from Utah Army . Air Bases. Kearns. and Salt Lake City, Hill Field, Fort Douglas, the University of Utah, and several other interested interest-ed clubs were on hand. Another meeting will be heid at Kearns, Tuesday afternoon, December 14. at which time schedules, by-laws, etc., will be set up. One of the most improved basketball bask-etball players on the Kearns Flyers Fly-ers is Larry McColloch, 23-year-old Gurlington, Iowa, forward. He stands 6 feet 3 inches and weighs 170 pounds. He is a three year veteran at Texas Tech under Coaches Earl Hoffman and "Poke' Robinson. He played in the Kansas Kan-sas City Invitational tourney last year and also led the cagers as a senior. Coach Al Woolard, of the Kearns Flyers, will bank on speel and finesse during the coming basketball bask-etball season. The majority of his squad is small, so he'll have to make up the lack of heigth with some other ability. Due to the shortage of players, Lieutenant Earl P. Beckman, business manager of the Kearns Flyers basketball team, has decided de-cided to don a uniform again. He played at the University of II-inois, II-inois, where he also captained the Big Ten championship tennis team in 1936. Plans are being made by the Kearns Flyers for several weekend week-end bookings, with two or three teams being played in the same two-day periods. |
