Show COMMENTS , HERBERT WARE REHERD. President-Emeritus of Westminster College. AS CHRISTMAS DRAWS NEAR we see men divided . into three groups. One is obsessed with the idea that there are some supermen in the world and that all mankind will be better off if these supermen become masters of the world and weaker peoples become their subjects. These folk hold to the heathen idea that "might makes right." Hitler claims that the Germans are that superior race of men. Hrrohito insists that the Japanese are such a conquering race. These leaders are bathing the world in blood to maintain their claims. They will ultimately fail because they are fighting fight-ing against the God of all men. A second group lives in great confusion of thought These men see a great global war and are in despair about it. They have no faith in a personal God and no philosophy of life. They are "like the waves of the sea driven and tossed," toss-ed," an unhappy and homeless people because they have no anchor for their souls. The third group consist of a growing number of people who' put their trust in a personal God of wisdom, love justice and mercy; who believe that such a God will, in the long run, give victory to those who honor Him and fight to restore liberty, justice and well-being among all men. These are the men and women in many nations who worship the Christ Child at Christmas and, with confident faith, look to the day when cruel might shall be displaced by the philosphy and power of the Prince of Peace. If we stand with this third group we may happily sim-at sim-at Christmas time "Joy to the world the Lord is come" and confidently work for the peace with justice which come tomorrow. to-morrow. . .L'."f?,'5 jJHj |
