This is a shift in the wheel-of-fortune since region four has ruled the state for the last several years. IN TALKING about his 18-2 club Coach Reid uses phrases like '"great shooter" and a "team player." in describing his main six men. Up front the Bengals will go with 6'6" senior Steve Schreiner who is the only returning starter star-ter back from last year and 6'5" junior John Beuchert. The other forward is 6' junior Todd Simmons who Reid refers to as "'the heart of our club. He's a winner." The Bengals use three guards, they play about the same amount of time in each game, with Scott Sperry. Todd Reid and Matt Brown. When asked what he knew of the Vikings Reid noted, "'they are big. tall and young." ONE ASPECT that always concerns coaches " ' is having their club look past their opening round opponent and Brighton might have a tendency to do that since they won their region while the Vikes are a fourth place club but Reid doesn't think it will happen. "We haven't even talked to our kids about anyone other than Viewmont. We told our kids to be ready for them. I believe they are five or six teams that can win the title but there are sixteen teams in that tournament that can win on any given night." A couple of coaches who have played both the Bengals and the Vikings are Mike Hall of Bountiful and Clyde Jackson of Woods Cross. Both favor Brighton to win but both believe the Vikings could win. "I think if Viewmont has a good shooting night they can battle and win. Brighton was much bigger than us and that's where they hurt us but Viewmont can matchup inside height wise with them" Hall said. "'To be honest I believe Viewmont can stay with Brighton inside with their big people but Brighton has the depth at the guard spots" Jackson added "but if the Viewmont guards have a good game they could win." see VIEWMONT next pg. Viewmonti, THE GUARD line is a questions Vikings in that junior Shane Thackei all year, is fighting an illness and ifssi'j ful as to whether or not he'll even'.,' : Viewmont is led in scoring by J' White and Bret Cloward and they'll (! their share of the points in order font ' to win. THE VIKES have been an upandd,,. all year and if they hit the Bengals on swing then Brighton will still be lookir ; state title. |
