Show Gardening Classes ScheduledAt Extension Service I'ARMINGTON -- One way to beat the winter blahs is to start planning for spring. The USU extension exten-sion service is helping solve the problems of planning a Spring garden by offering an excellent series of Spring Ciaidening Classes. All sessions are held at the Horticultural Farm, 1817 N. Main, Farmington. Classes last about 90 minutes. There is a $1 per family (household) fee to be paid at the door. THE INSTRUCTOR for the classes is David E. Whiting, Horticultural agent for the USU Farming-ton Farming-ton Farm. In the past three years, these classes have been very well-attended. It would be wise to come early. FEBRUARY 23 at 7:30 p.m. the series will start with a presentation centered around greenhouse management. Included in the discussion will be material about the management of temperature, humidity, ventilation, watering, soils and fertilizers ;is they apply to hobby greenhouse production. Saturday morning, Feb. 25 at 9 a.m. the class topic will be growing transplants and starting vegetable and flower transplants at home. THURSDAY evening, March I at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Whiting will give a presentation entitled Building and Using Coldframes. The design and use of inexpensive inexpen-sive coldframes for starting transplants and off season sea-son vegetable production will be the major topic for this class. On March 3 at 9 a.m. fruit growing with material about water, fertilizer and pest management in the home orchard will be the class topic. GREENHOUSE DESIGN I is the title for the March 8 presentation. Class will start at 7:30 p.m. Greenhouse Design II is a follow-up class. This will be held Thursday evening March 15 at 7:30 p.m. ONE OE the most popular classes offered through . the extension service is fruit pruning. This class is scheduled for Saturday morning. March 10 if the weather is good. A time will be announced later.
