Show 1950 City Tax Levy Same As Thai Of 1949 The city council Monday passed pass-ed a 1950 tax levy of 25 mills, the same levy as in 1949. The vote was unanimous. For each dollar of valuation, 5 mills will go toward contin gent expense of city; 3 mills, public safety; 4 mills, supplying wafer for culinary and irrigation irriga-tion purposes; 2 mills, maintaining, maintain-ing, improving, and lighting streets and sidewalks; 2 mills, maintaining city parks and cemetery; cem-etery; 3 mills, fund to pay interest in-terest on bonded indebtedness of city; 5 mills, fund to retire bonded indebtedness; and 1 mill, maintenance and construction of sewers. Cily taxes, based on this levy, and county taxes, based on a levy to be determined Aug. 1, will be collected this fall by the county. The city will be assessed as-sessed for its share of collection expense. A rent settlement was made with Art Allen, discontinuing his lease on the South park grounds. Mr. Allen received $100, plus a paid water bill for $54, for surrendering his interest in-terest in the grounds. Mr. Bellon said Wednesday that testing of the second Lee-ton Lee-ton water well should be completed com-pleted by Thursday night, July 20. So far, he continued, this well looks as if it will be a much better producer than the first. Testing started Wednesday about 3 p. m., and a 24-hour test is anticipated. Councilman Bennie Schmiett reported that so far an instructor instruc-tor has not been found to take over municipal airport facilities Councilman Elmer "Bumps" Eldredge said he and Councilman Council-man Steve Bellon, Tal Wardle, James Lewis, and Dick Owen, of the U.B.I.C. committee, decided de-cided Thursday that the U.B.I. C. stage should be located at the southwest corner of the city tennis courts. The south side, when completed, will open up for pageants, plays, conventions, etc., and the east side for dances. danc-es. Mr. Owen said Wednesday that construction of the stage should start by the first of next week, if materials are on hand and a foreman hired.
