Show i High School Debaters Entertain PTA Parents and teachers who attended at-tended the February PTA meeting meet-ing last Thursday night at the high school heard a very interesting inter-esting debate presented by a group of students under the di-1 rection of Mrs. Virgie Murphy, j Subject debated was "Resolved' that Further Social Welfare I Benefits Be Extended by the Federal Government." Debaters included Bertella Swain, Dar-lene Dar-lene Brown, Tom Rowley and Mrs. Murphy, with Velma Mc-Keever Mc-Keever acting as chairman. Lawrell Jensen, principal at Roosevelt high, discussed the idea of having the Lyceum numbers, num-bers, which come to the school, presented to the parents in the evening. This was endorsed by all present. A question was raised by one of the parents regarding 1st and 2nd grade local students get-.' ting out of school at 2:30 and ' keeping bus students until 3:30. Principal John Blaine, of the elementary school explained that in most of the schools in the state the younger students get out at 2:30, but bus students here have no way of getting home, so are kept for supervised super-vised play or rest for the extra hour. It was pointed out that children of first and second grade age are too tired by 2:30 to carry on any further effective school work. |
