Show Nears Completion .... Union Nigh Finish Assured By Suiy 1 Union high school will officially of-ficially be completed and ready to turn over to the board of education on July 1, 1951. At least that is the promise made Monday night by Ralph Childs, Spring'ville contractor, who met with the board at their meeting held in the elementary school building at Roosevelt. According to Russel Todd, president of the Union high school board, Mr. Childs assured as-sured them that he would have his work completed by that time and would be ready to turn the building to them. He specified speci-fied that all materials were available for its completion and that the gymnasium would be the first part of the edifice com-i com-i pleted. About all that remains I to be done in the gym is the $7000 partition, and that must be made-to-order, and this will be finished in the near future. The new school building that will house students from Alterra and Roosevelt high schools was started a year ago. At the time of letting ' the contract to the Childs Construction Co., it was anticipated that the building would be ready for school last fall. However, inability to get materials and other difficulties delayed its construction and occupancy. oc-cupancy. Another matter of business consurnated by the board Monday Mon-day was renewing the year's contract to L. F. Hutchings, who was employed last fall as principal prin-cipal of the school. When the school did not open, Mr. Hutchings Hut-chings was transferred to Alterra, Alter-ra, where he is currently serving serv-ing as principal. The board also discussed teachers -for the new school, but deferred any action for the present. j Peculiar to the public school system of the state will be the supervision of the corps of teachers at Union high. Mr. Hutchings, as principal, will be delegated full administrative powers by the board, and although al-though the superintendents of Uintah and Duchesne school districts are serving as members of the board, neither will have supervision over the school, except ex-cept as a board member. This Is the system used in Utah colleges. col-leges. This is brought about by the fact that the school is situated sit-uated partially in Uintah and Duchesne counties and will be supported by both school districts dis-tricts financially. |
