Show "News Bits About Yesler-Years" 5 Years Ago A driving snowstorm which swept the hills north of Fruit-land Fruit-land Sunday afternoon, changed directions on Irvin Miles, Roosevelt Roos-evelt service station operator, and turned his deer hunt into a near tragedy. With his father and brother, Newell, Irvin had been hunting hunt-ing the Fruitland country all day Sunday. The three were separated when the snow storm struck. Mr. Miles and Newell made their way back to their truck after hailing Irvin;- but, unable to determine his directions direc-tions in the swirling snow, Irvin Ir-vin walked directly away from the car. After walking approximately sixteen miles, the lost hunter found a trail which led him to a ranch house, where he was able to Set shelter. He was in a half-frozen state when he arrived. ar-rived. V Forty-seven students from the Uintah Basin in attendance at the Utah State Agricultural college, col-lege, met on October 16 and organized or-ganized the Uintah Basin club. The group chose as its officers: Chal Allred, Roosevelt, president; presi-dent; Tom Taylor, Alterra, vice-president; vice-president; and Wanda Anderson, Vernal, secretary and treasurer. 10 Years Ago ;; Joseph H. Lambert, who celebrated cel-ebrated his 85th birthday Mon- day, was the honored guest at a turkey banquet given in the ward hall Monday evening by the Roosevelt High P r i e s t s' quorum. Mr. Lambert is the oldest old-est member of the quorum. John Yack, formerly of Neola, and for the past two wears head of the commercial department of Carbon college, Price, Monday will assume duties of college treasurer, succeeding Wilcken Fox, who has resigned to accept ac-cept employment in Salt Lake City, according to Dr. Elden B. Sessions, president. There will be fun for all tomorrow to-morrow evening in Roosevelt when civic and church organizations, organi-zations, schools and business houses join to sponsor a community com-munity Hallowe'en celebration. Here from Mojave, Calif., were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lublin, and from Lyman, Wyoming, came Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Sparks and daughter Shirlene. 20 Years Ago The American Legion Auxiliary Auxil-iary of Basin Post 64 met in regular session in the Barracks Wednesday night at 8 o'clock, where installation of officers took place. New officers installed in-stalled included Mrs. Helen Mc-Affee Mc-Affee president; Gladys Wilkinson, Wilkin-son, first vice-president; Mrs. Belle Reef, second vice president; presi-dent; Olive Harrison secretary; Nellie Atwood, treasurer; Elsie Campbell, chaplain; Frances Burns, historian, and Pearl Knudson, sergeant-at-arms. About ten Roosevelt Lion members, wives and sweethearts, sweet-hearts, motored to Vernal Wednesday evening to attend a very elaborate entertainment and banquet arranged and prepared pre-pared by the active Vernal Lions Li-ons club. After the banquet everyone enjoyed themselves dancing. Mrs. Ray E. Dillman left Sunday Sun-day morning for Logan, where she will attend the classes' giv-en giv-en in leadership in home, community com-munity work and literature-during literature-during the next two weeks.' |
