Show Uintah Basin Soil Conservation District News By Don B. Nielson Land leveling in the Leota area has speeded up wiih the end of the harvest season. The supervisors of the. Uintah Basin Soil Conservation Disirict I and the Soil Conservation Ser-1 Ser-1 vice are proud of these farmers and wish : to encourage other farmers in other sections of the Basin to consider the possibilities possibili-ties of doing their own leveling rather than waiting for expensive expen-sive heavy equipment. S C s Warren Gillings, of Jenser. has built one-half mile of drain ditch on-,hii iarm at Jensen. Earl Mechami of Ashley, has built 600 feet of drain ditch. Ray Houston and Roy Huber, of La-point, La-point, are .building a half mile I of drain- ditch on their farms at Lapoint. Each of these farmers had the Soil Conservation Service make an investigation to' locate the best place for the drain ditch. S C S Drainage-' investigations require re-quire a lot of time and are'madc when the water table is highest Often the best period for making mak-ing these investigations is short.. You farmers who wish to construct con-struct a drain in the fall of 1953 or the spring of 1954 should get your request to' your Soil Conservation Con-servation District supervisor or the Soil Conservation Service office so the supervisors can get you on their job priority li?t for next summer S CS Those farmers who have worked up a farm plan with the Uintah Basin Soil Conservation District can save themselves and the P M A comunity committeemen committee-men some time and trouble if they study this plan before thev decide what they will sign no for in the 1953 P M A program s c s Ge'ddes Lindsay and Elwin Birch, of Mtn.
