Show Does Roosevelt Meed AAore Fire Equipment? Are you one of those wh liveH across the line just on the other side, or just a mile or two from town? Do you live close enough to make it a quick trip for groceries, grocer-ies, yet too far out of town to have the fire protection you should be getting the fire protection pro-tection you could have if there 'was another FIRE TRUCK in Roosevelt? If so; then the following article ar-ticle and information are for you: A few years ago the Fire Board of Underwriters put the facts on the table. To cut the fire insurance insur-ance rates and to be only fair to the taxpayers in town the city council set the law stating that the fire truck could not leave the city limits to take care of fires out of town. It would be a haz ardous situation if a fire were to break out within the city limits, while the fire department was answering an-swering a call out of town, with no other truck or fire fighting equipment available. Since then there have been a number of fires just outside the city limits a few of them very serious, which the fire department depart-ment feels badly about. However, they can do nothing about assisting, assist-ing, except on a personal basis. In a few cases the mayor has given them permission to leave the city limits with the truck, but, as you can see, it is a risk each time. Recently a group of people became be-came aroused by these facts and decided to investigate the matter. (Continued on Page 2) FIRE EQUIPMENT .... (Continued from page one) They found others were interested and a meeting was called to discuss dis-cuss the problem. By gathering facts and discussing the situation with an attorney, it was decided that if enough people within a' ten or fifteen mile radius were interested in-terested there could be possible - ways of securing another fire truck, making it lawful to leave the city limits with one truck and ' half the fire crew. If the area owned two fire en-i en-i .gines, it would not only benefit ! those who live across the line, , but it would also benefit property owners and other residents of Roosevelt. . The present fire truck " equipment is inadequate for fight-' fight-' ing fires. Therefore, if there were a very serious fire in Roosevelt it would be almost impossible to control it with the one truck alone. The type of truck discussed at the meeting would be large enough to handle almost any fire in or out of town. With speed to get there and facilities for putting out the fire, it would greatly benefit the people of a fire zone, which would be set up if enough are interested. Letters of comment concerning this new fire truck project will be welcomed. Let us know your viewpoint. view-point. Send letters to the Editor of the Roosevelt Standard. Roosevelt Fire Dept. |
