Show Union & Duchesne Win Week-End Contests At Home Duchesne and Union had little trouble last Friday in turning back Altamont and Tabiona in the two games scheduled for the Uintah Basin division of Region Re-gion 5. Headed by Rex Broad-head, Broad-head, speedy little forward, who was ably assisted by Ronnie Robbins and Bert Young1, the Eagles were never headed by the Altamont Longhorns from the first whistle to the final gun. The final score was 43-32. The Cougars from Union went into a 12-4 lead during the first quarter of the Tabby-Union Tabby-Union game at Roosevelt, and were never challenged by the game and fighting bunch of kids from Utah's smallest high school, where only 37 students make up the total high school enrollment. Ken Nickell was the high scorer in the contest, but he was pushed by a brilliant junior jun-ior from Tabiona, Basil Defa, who hit 3 from the field and added 5 charity tosses to run his total to 11, just two sort of Nickell's 13. It was Defa who kept Tabby's fighting youngsters in the ball game all the way. Coach Glen Allred started an almost new combination as he sent Norval Hanson and Don Killian in, along with Ken Nickell, Nick-ell, Gwen Bodily and John Benson. Ben-son. However, before the game was over, Allred had cleared his bench, with every player on the team having a chance to play at least a couple of min utes. The Union-Tabby game lacked the color and thrills of the game the week before, but the almost packed gym saw some fine basketball on the part of both teams. Especially was the team work of the Cougars interesting in-teresting to watch as they seem to have developed a system sys-tem to offset a zone defense which Coach Bob Barton threw against them during the first half. This was the system the Utes had used at Vernal which almost broke the Cougars' back the second half of the game. Bodily and Benson, along with Nickell. were very effective effec-tive on defense and offense. Another boy who looked good the minute or two he was in the lineup was Johnny Jorgensen, 6 ft. 2 in. junior. His work on the boards and handing off to his mates, was quite impressive. With a little more experience he should add a lot of strength to the Cougars. The lineup: Union 43 G T F P Bodily, f. 3 2 17 Hansen, i. 0 0 0 0 K.
