Show Duchesne Eagles Uonl Hough Oiders j 46-2S En League Opener; 'B" Preliminary Wn By Iloosevelt An inspired flock of Eagles from Duchesne high school last Firday night descended into the home-lands of the Rough Riders at Roosevelt and did something that only one other team has been able to do in the past three years beat the Rough Riders on their own floor. And an impressive 46-26 win it was for the Duchesne Eagles. Prior to the initial Region Five league ' game for '51, the Roosevelt team was picked to win rather handily, as the Eagles Ea-gles were considered in somewhat some-what of a "dark-horse" class. However, the William Smith-coached Smith-coached team had other ideas and after the game was 60 seconds sec-onds old, it was an almost unanimous unan-imous decision that if the Rough Riders successfully defended their title, they'd have to show more than they had in that first minute. With Ronald Robbins, Leo Brady and Ted Marsing leading the attack, the Eagles soared through the first quarter with a 14-4 lead over Roosevelt that found the Riders withaut a single field goal in the first eig'ht minutes. The second quarter was the only time in the ball- game the I Rough Riders held their own ,with a sharp-shooting and fine I defensive team from the county I seat's high scfiool. In that frame Roosevelt scored 11 and Duchesne Du-chesne 7. But after the third quarter had begun, the Eagles began hitting, and the qutcpme of the game was never in doubt. Several boys on both teams played outstanding ball, but j the slender-built Brady was the ) best of the lot. He' used his 6'2" to a fine advantage on defense, de-fense, and his hook-shot from the post position marked him as "the boy" to be stopped. He and his mate, Marsing1, tied for high scoring honors in the game with 16 each. The Rough Riders played without the services of their only six-footer, Frank Snyder, who was not in uniform' due to illness. His loss left a hard gap for Coach Marcus Garrett to fill. A smooth working "B" team from Roosevelt high took a bit of the sting out of the loss of the "A" squad as they routed the Eagle "B's" 41-22 in a preliminary pre-liminary game.
