Show y CLIFF MEMMOTT, Ediior S i WORTHY PROJECT BEGUN BY THE ROOSEVELT LIONS CLUB .... Early on the morning of July 1, the City of Roosevelt s sprayed with a mosquito-killing gas a project of the I Lions club. The job was done by airplane and the results have been very gratifying to the entire community. The "skeeters" haven't been biting like they were. Reports coming from the committee in charge of the nroject of service to us all, reveal that the Lions desire to spray twice more, and almost offers a guarantee that with the third and final spraying, the mosquito season will be at an end. . I am sure the entire community extends a hearty vote of thanks to the Lions club for this fi.e project of service to our community .... And I'm equally sure each of us will make our contribute to them in aiding with the subsequent sprayings of the mosquitos. v E v SUCCESS OF A PROJECT CAN BE MEASURED BY THE INTEREST SHOWN .... T Approximately a month ago, the officers and directors of the Roosevelt Kiwanis club were presented with the idea of a July Fourth Fireworks Display And, frankly, not too much enthusiasm was registered at first. . . . Then they ' discussed the idea from various angles, and when a vote was taken, it favored taking a shot at the project. In due course the club's membership approved the recommendation of the directors, and an order for $350.00 worth of fireworks was placed, and a committee began working on the financing end of the "brain-storm." A few days before the 175th Anniversary of Our -: Country arrived, the fireworks came to town, plus all rj the blue-prints and directions for assembling and shooting them off. . . . The club president, who proposed the idea, and a few of the loyal and hard-working members, took I over and made v ready for the public, which they looped ( vwld come out and see What they had to offer. Merchants and people of the Roosevelt area had as-. as-. atd the success of the display from a financial point-of--l ww with their generous contributions before the show i was presented. Much more could be said, but to make the report that estimates from various people place the number of cars i that jammed and packed - every available nook and corner 1 of the Rodeo Grounds at between 1200 and 1800 is quite enough I helped to park them and route them out after the mow, an I'm positive they are not off much. There were two very gratifying features of the fireworks fire-works show First,' it was clean and went off without accident; ac-cident; and, second, the public liked it because it was I clean, entertaining, beautiful, and because it was some- . -j thing hundreds and hundreds of them had never seen before. The Kiwanis club is happy that it was able to add a Wtle to make the 1951 observance of Independence Day something the people here will not soon forget. . . The club pes it can repeat the performance again next year. v E v PROGRESS MADE AT MERCHANTS MEETING HELD LAST WEEK ...... If the same enthusiasm continues that was manifest st Thursday night at the initial meeting of the Roosevelt business and professional men, then this city should soon have an active, working Chamber of Commerce. . . . Nearly 100 owners, managers and assistant managers joined in a Park luncheon, sponsored by the Roosevelt Commercial tob, and then participated in a business meeting at the D-S. church builing, where they discussed the problem of businessman's organization for Roosevelt. After perfecting a temporary organization, various men nl women were called to express their opinions, and all Breed that an organization was needed, and all favored ""miming the mechanics of its perfection. A committee was appointed to study, plan and be pre- to present to the entire group a recommendation of fdure- Tuesday this committee met and spent consider consid-er u'ime in surveying and studying a plan which will ot)ably be presented to the group in the near future.
