Show Proclamation WHEREAS it is deemed right and proper that the good people of Roosevelt should pause in their labours to give thought to the coming Christmas Season; AND as Washington Irving would say: There is something in the very season of the year that gives a charm to the festivity fes-tivity if Christmas. "In the depth of winter, when nature lies despoiled des-poiled of every charm and wrapped wrap-ped in her shroud of sheeted snow, we turn for gratification to mortal sources. The dreariness dreari-ness and desolation of the landscape, land-scape, the short and gloomy days and darksome nights, while they circumscribe our wandering's, shut in our feelings also from rambling abroad, and make us more keenly disposed for the pleasures of the social circle. Our thoughts are more sensibly the charm of each others society, and are brought more closely by enjoyment. Heart calls unto heart; and we draw our pleasures from the deep wells of loving kindness which lie in the quiet recesses of our bosoms and which when resorted to. burst forth the pure clement of domestic felicity." feli-city." NOW, THEREFORE, I, Homer P. Edwards, Mayor of Roosevelt, do declare and set over as the "Christmas .Season the period from December 11th through December 31st. And I do ask that the citizens of Roosevelt cause their homes, their churches and places of business to be decorated dec-orated and embellished in appropriate ap-propriate manner befitting the season. With best season's greetings, (signed) HOMER P. EDWARDS Mayor |
