"Christmas trees are highly infammable and with the addition of electric light cords, flimsy decorations and the heat of a room, become a real fire hazard." Fire Chief Hacking offered the the following' suggestions which will make the Yule season a safer saf-er and happier celebration: Select a green tree, the greener green-er the better; saw the trunk off above the original cut at an angle. an-gle. The angular cut will bare more of the trunk to water, which is important because every tree should be placed in a tub or pan of water; place the tree as far away as possible from any source of heat; never place burning burn-ing candles on the tree or near it-Be it-Be sure that the ornaments you use are fireproofed; check all light cords for worn places or possible short circuits: keep children with matches or toys which require flame or heat away from tree; remove the tree from the house before it becomes too badly dried out. |
