Show See Und Alcohol Held Accountable For Highway Crash Four occupants of an east-bound east-bound auto escaped serious injury in-jury when the Buick sedan in which they were riding careened from the highway on the turn south of Roosevelt, overturned, snapping off a power pole before be-fore coming to rest, bottom side up. Involved in the accident were four Duchesne men: Peter D. Bancroft, 22, the driver, who escaped injury; James I. Eli-ason, Eli-ason, 22, lacerations about the face and hands; Clarence W. Casper, 25, contusions of the hest; and Ronald Merkley, 21, lacerations, contusions of the scalp, possible slight concussion, and a cut on the right forearm. Three of the occupants were pined beneath the car when the power pole fell on it. They were removed by Deputy City Marshal Mar-shal John Mollison and taken to the Roosevelt hospital for emergency emer-gency treatment. One of the passengers, pas-sengers, James Eliason. was thrown out of the car a distance of 30 feet as it rolled over. All were released after receiving first aid treatment. An icy road and alcohol were held accountable for the accident by Marshal Mollison. The officer offic-er reported that the driver and his passengers had all been drinking. Following his release from the Roosevelt hospital, Bancroft, driver of the car, was held in the city jail overnight, and appeared before Justice of the Peace John Baumg'aertel Thursday morning where he was charged with driving' driv-ing' while drinking. He was fined $15 and his driver's license suspended sus-pended for one year. Three bottles of beer and a portion of a gallon of wine were removed from the car, which was a total wreck. A part of the Roosevelt business busi-ness district was thrown into darkness when the careening automobile collided with the power pole. |
