Show 4-11 Achievement Program Judged The County's Best DUCHESNE county held the largest 4-H achievement program in its history on Monday, Jan. 13 with activities at Roosevelt and Mt. Emmons. A total of 168 4-H'ers, their leaders and parents par-ents look part in events which patrons of thc organization declared de-clared outstanding. At Roosevelt, the program was put on by representatives from Neola. Ioka, Duchesne. Myton, .and Montwel with 95 present. 'The following 4-H club members j and associates participated: Boyd Lemon, Catherine Rudy, I Bonnie Fenn, Ioka 4-H club girls, David Sharp, Jr., state 4-H leader; Mrs. Geneva Whiting, Neola; Fern Shipley, state 4-H girls' leader; Paul Murphy, representing rep-resenting the bankers' association: associa-tion: Bill Whitaker Uintah county agent, and Renae Gilbert. Representatives from Tabiona, Hanna, Arcadia, Boneta, Tal? mage, Mt. Emmons and Mt, Home conducted the program at Mt. Emmons, where 73 parents, 4-H leaders and club members were present. Sharing in the work which made the Mt. Emmons Em-mons achievement program a feature to be remembered were: Joan Bleazard, Nadene Ottosen, David Sharp. Jr., the Mt. Emmons Em-mons trio, Fern Shipley, Mrs. Ora Holgate, Arcadia, and the Arcadia girls' trio. AWARDS were presented to the leaders and 4-H girls by David Dav-id Sharp Jr., state leaders. Ber-nice Ber-nice Palfreyman, county home demonstration agent, was in charge of the program, both at Roosevelt and Mt. Emmons. For outstanding work in,. the 4-H club special awards were given to Mary Lee Mortensen, LaRue Linck, Juanita Gleaton and Catherine Rudy. The former were recognized for having von blue ribbons at the county style dress review, and the latter for winning the demonstration on the use of dairy foods. Mrs. Marie Benson, of Ioka, was awarded a silver pin for having hav-ing successfully taught five years of 4-H club work. She is the first person in Duchesne county to have received such an award, One of the most unique successful success-ful classes taught by Mrs. Benson Ben-son during her 4-H club service, was a boys' and girls' cooking class. "The boys," says Mrs. Benson, "were as good as the girls in the culinary art. Mary Lee Mortensen, judged the outstanding 4-H club girl in Duchesne county, received a medal for her achievements. Miss Mortensen has completed four years of club work. She was one of the winners of the style dress review at the Utah Stale Fair, and was one of three girls to receive a blue ribbon, the first such award to be given an entry from Duchesne county. |
