Show BASIN BRIEFS Receives Recognition Mrs, W. G. Gentry, of Myton, received recognition, and a tidy check, when her picture of the homesteaders constructing a ditch line from Myton to the Lake Fork river some 30 miles from Myton, won first place for the week in the Salt Lake Tribune Tri-bune Centennial photo contest. The picture, lake 35 years ago, was published October 3. Postmaster J. Austin Pack left last Friday to attend a postmasters' postmas-ters' convention in Los Angeles. Miss Eva M. Haas, of Ft. Duchesne, Du-chesne, visited last week in Igloo, Ig-loo, South Dakota with Miss E. Bernice Brown, who was formerly for-merly the Home Demonstration agent stationed here. Mrs. Presley Timothy, of Salt Lake City, visited in Roosevelt the forepart of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Castle-ton Castle-ton and family, of Garland, visited vis-ited over the weekend with Mrs. Castlcton's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Pack. Mr. and Mrs. Thco Phillips and their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Evans Phillips, of Vernal, attended teachers institute in-stitute in Salt Lake City last Thursday and Friday. They visited vis-ited over the weekend in Ogden with Mr. and Mrs. Ted Phillips and Mr. and Mrs. Mark McGuire. Football Schedule October 17 Roosevelt will play Alterra High at Alterra; Uintah High will play Altamont High at Mt. Emmons. October 24 Alterra High will play Uintah High at Vernal; Roosevelt High will play Altamont Alta-mont High at Mt. Emmons. Kick-off time for all games is 1:30 p. m. Stanford O. Gardner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gardner, of Haydcn, was recently pro-moled pro-moled to the grade of Staff Sergeant, Ser-geant, it was announced by Col. Albert J. Shower, Commanding Officer of Spokane Army Air field, Spokane, Washington. Sergeant Gardner, an Aircraft Mechanic, is assigned to the 325th Bomb Squadron. 92nd Bombardment Group of the 15th Air Force which is training with B-29 Superfortresses. s Mrs. Vcan Bair and son, Glenn, spent the weekend in Ogden with Mrs. Bair's parents. D U P A meeting of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers will be held Friday, October 24, at 3 p. m. at the residence of Mrs. Pearl Redmond. Red-mond. All members and those eligible for membership arc invited in-vited to attend. Francis McKihlcy has resigned his position with the Uintah-Ouray Uintah-Ouray Tribal office to continue his education at George Washington Wash-ington University, Washington, D. C. His sister, Helen McKinley, is taking his place in the Tribal office. : Miss Nadine Pate, a student at Wasatch Academy, and Miss Dorothy Stone, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest R. Stone, of Ft. Duchesne, spent the weekend with Dorothy's parents. Also at home to spend the weekend was Forrest D. Stone, who is attending attend-ing the University of Wyoming at Laramie. He returned to Ft. Duchesne with his father who had been in Casper on official business during the week. Pete Green, of Cheyenne, Fish Warden for the Wyoming Fish and Game Commission, spent Monday night ith his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. C. Greene, of Ft. Duchesne. |
