Show School Doings ROOSEVELT HIGH Visitors at- Roosevelt high school these days might wonder at the deserted halls during noon hour. The answer is that the former hall loungers are all watching basketball games in the gym. A series of intcrmural basketball encounters has brought every able ball toter in the school into action, including the male faculty members. Melvin Peterson and Clint Nelson seem to be the outstanding outstand-ing players from the faculty, but the school team seems to all run in the same category all are excellent players. Mrs. Lawrell Jensen was missing miss-ing from the faculty last week due lo the death of her mother, Mrs. George B. Cox, of Manti. She returned November 16 to resume re-sume her duties as part-time librarian li-brarian and teacher. JoAnn Gingcll, reporter The annual Harvest Ball was held on Nov. 12 sponsored by the F F A and F H A. Marlene Fredrickson was crowned queen and Eulala Olscn held the lucky number in the turkey drawing. An assembly during the afternoon after-noon was given by the two clubs. Students had their first fire drill a week ago. It went off in an nrHrrlv nnrl pffiripnt mnnvm. Allan Smith has been chosen chief of the regular fire force and will meet with the city fire fighters the second Monday in each month. The Juniors had a class party on November 10 in the Hiryh school gym. JoAnne Roberts, Al-gie Al-gie Luke and Bob Timothy were in charge of arrangements for the gala occasion. Mr. Peel was class advisor. The American Legion. Basin Post 64 presented an Armistice Day program. The Dramatics class gave an oral reading and the chorus presented a group of songs. The Rough Riders basketball team have begun serious practice prac-tice for the first pre-season game scheduled for December 9 at the Elementary school. Danny Beeler, reporter ALTAMONT SEMINARY Thus far during 1948 the Al-lamont Al-lamont Seminary, under the direction di-rection of Ben C. Gomm, has accomplished ac-complished a great deal. The annual Seminary Eall was held November 4 at the Mt. Emmons Em-mons ward hall. Betty Jensen was crowned queen and Martin Brotherson as prince charming. Dorothy Hansen and VeLoy Rust were chosen as attendants. A floor show was presented by the girls of the church history course. The dance was semi-formal and much enjoyed by all. During September and October, Octo-ber, Brother Woods and Brother Dunyan, from the L D S Dept. of Education, were very welcome wel-come visitors at the Altamont seminary and while speaking inspired in-spired the students very much. The year is going fast and we are all looking forward lo our seminary pins the symbol of graduation, the spring trip and other activities in the days to come. Lorna Cook, reporter BALLARD SCOUTS Last summer 21 Ballard Scouts made a trip through Yellowstone National Park using three trucks for transportation. To finance the trip we sold pop corn at the ward shows each week. This year we are planning a trip to Canada which we hope to finance in the same manner, and are looking forward to having hav-ing as much fun as we had on last summer's trio. Dale Hayes, reporter |
