The President notes that: (1) "The spiritual endowments of our country are undiminished; (2) "We may, as always, walk as free men unafraid; (3) "Our harvests have been bountiful, our production of goods abundant; (4) "Our resources have permit-led permit-led us to aid the needy and helpless help-less of other lands; i (5) "We are privileged to participate par-ticipate in international efforts to advance human welfare: (G) "We are profoundly grateful for the existence of an international forum where differences dif-ferences among nations may be submitted to world opinion with a view to harmonious adjustment." adjust-ment." Thereupon, the President calls upon the people of the nation to pray, "not only in the spirit of Thanksgiving, but also as suppliants sup-pliants for wisdom in our approach ap-proach to the problems confronting confront-ing this nation." Calling attention to the dignity dig-nity of man and his right to live in freedom and peace, he suggests sug-gests that we ask "divine guidance guid-ance in helping safeguard these gifts for ourselves and other peoples peo-ples of the earth." In addition to the bounties which have been bestowed upon us, the President calls upon the people of this country to resolve to "render generous assistance to the hungry and homeless in other lands, thus renewing our devotion devo-tion to the cause of good-will among men." While there may be many differences dif-ferences of opinion as to the political po-litical views expounded by the Chief Executive of this nation, there will be little dissent from the general terms of his Thanksgiving Thanks-giving proclamation. We call attention at-tention to what President Truman Tru-man says because, in the rush of busy days, some of us overlook over-look the facts and opportunities of which he reminds us. |
