Show (now Your Teachers LAWRELL W. JENSEN Principal Graduated from Brigham Young university in 1930 with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and education. educa-tion. Mr. Jensen entered the teaching teach-ing profession immediately following' fol-lowing' his graduation, He taught at Mt. Pleasant for a year then at the Fielding Academy in Paris, Par-is, Idaho for seven years. He served as principal of the Idaho school during his last year. During World War II he was assigned the job of manager of the Japanese internment at Smithfield, Utah. In 1944 he went to Monticello high school in San Juan county as principal and assistant superintendent of San Juan county schools. While at Monticello he served two terms as president of the Lions club. Mr. Jensen took up his duties as principal of Roosevelt Roos-evelt high at the beginning of this school year. MURPHY English - Dramatics Graduated from the Utah State Agricultural college in 1935 with a major in English and a minor in history. At the USAC she was a member mem-ber of the senior honorary fraternity, fra-ternity, Alpha Sigma Nu; a member mem-ber of 'the school paper staff, "Student Life" for three years; yearbook staff for three years; leading role in the 1933 varsity play; a member of the women's honorary journalism fraternity, Lambda Tho; and a member of AlDha Chi OmrM ity. Mrs. Murphy taught at Central Cen-tral high, now Altamont high, in 1934 and 1935. She left the teaching profession following her year at Altamont, but returned re-turned to it in 1940, remaining in the field until 1944. She resumed her classroom work again in 1947. CLINTON NELSON Physical Ed - Coach A tennis ace at North Cache high. Graduated from the Utah State Agricultural college in 1943. USAC basketball captain; a three letterman in basketball; three-year tennis star. Member and president of SAE fraternity; chairman of the annual A-Day celebration; a three year member mem-ber of the student council; a member of the ROTC unit. Coached one year at Oakley, Idaho and two years at Ammon, Idaho before taking the physical education and coaching duties at Roosevelt high in 1948. Mr. Nelson is married and has a three-year-old daughter. !.-. - V- ; mmmm MERLIN L. KILLPACK Biology Graduated from Brigham Young university in 1945 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Following graduation he worked 18 months with the U S. Forest service, 15 months of which were in research. This is Mr. Killpack's third year as a teacher. In 1946-47 he taught at Provo high school. This is his second year at Roosevelt Roos-evelt high. He is married and has one child. His hobbies arc photography, taxidermy, fishing, hunting, swimming and ice skating. He plans to return to school in 1949 to complete the requirements require-ments for his master's degree. Mr. Killpack says he enjoys teaching at Roosevelt high because be-cause of the opportunities afforded afford-ed for conducting research in biology. LOIS H. LEAVITT Home Economics Graduated from Brigham Young university, an honor student, stu-dent, with a degree of Bachelor of Science in 1943. Received the Hazel Noble Boyack award, granted annually to the outstanding out-standing senior student in the Home Economics department. A member of Gamma Phi Om-icron, Om-icron, honarary home economics sorority for juniors and seniors. Treasurer of the sorority during her senior year. Mrs. Leavitt taught at the Spanish Fork high school for two years before coming to Roosevelt high. This is her second sec-ond year at the local school. :x Jf W. RALPH SHIELDS Mathematics Graduated from Roosevelt high then earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Brigham Young university with a double major in education and economics econom-ics and a minor in sociology. Filled a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ' of Latter-Day Saints in the east central states mission field. Attended a midshipman school at Northwestern university, from which he was awarded a commission commis-sion in the U. S. Naval reserve. Served 4 years as communications communica-tions officer with the Pacific fleet. Acted as claims examiner for the Utah Department of Employment Employ-ment Security for a year following follow-ing his release from the service, Mr. Shields has now taught at i Roosevelt high for two years. |
