Show SOCIETY Peggy Oldroyd, Sociely Reporter DISTRIC CONVENTION Red, white and blue streamers and a riot of glittering stars set the background tar the effective United Nations theme portrayed at the annual fall district convention con-vention of the Uintah Basin Federated Fed-erated Women's clubs held Thursday evening, November 18 at the Ft. Duchesne Women's club house, with members of the Ft. Duchesne Women's club acting act-ing as hostesses. Striking bouquets of red, white and blue chrysanthemums centered each of the two banquet ban-quet tables, with tiny dolls, dressed in the costumes of the countries of the world, radiating from the centerpiece and running the full length of the tables. Covers were laid for 104 members mem-bers and guests. Mrs. L. Jacobc, of Vernal, district dis-trict president, conducted the business portion of the meeting, with Mrs. Ray Ashton, of Vernal, as guest speaker. Entertainment was provided by two vocal solos x by Esther Wogec, of Roosevelt, and a short dialog1 by members i of the Vernal club. 1 NEIGHBORHOOD SEWING Mrs. Floyd La brum was hostess hos-tess at a delightful party at her residence on November 17 when she entertained members of her sewing club. A tasty salad course luncheon . was served with places marked for Mrs. LeRoy Hall, Mrs. Guy Burton, Mrs. Stanley Hall. Mrs. Joseph Rawlings, Mrs. Clifton Laris. Mrs. Howard Andrews and Mrs. Darrell Wardle. ALTRUS Mrs. Ray E. Dillman and Mrs. Alva Snow were hostesses to members and guests of Altrus club at a delightful dessert lunch eon at the Dillman residence last Thursday evening. Mrs. Paul Murphy entertained the group with a delightful review re-view of Betty McDonald's book "The Plague and I," pinch-hitting for Mrs. Axel Birch who presented pre-sented Mrs. Murphy with a beautiful beau-tiful cup and sauceras a token of her appreciation. ' Enjoying the evening were Mrs. Randall Stewart, Mrs. Hol-lis Hol-lis Hullinger. Mrs Axel Birch, Mrs George Stewart, Mrs. Norman Nor-man Murphy, Mrs. George Taylor, Tay-lor, Mrs. Homer P. Edwards. JUNIOR CULTURE Mrs. Frank Yack and Mrs. Stanley Hall were co-hostcsscs to members of Junior Culture club at the Yack residence Monday Mon-day evening, November 2. Mrs. Gordon Harmston. club president, conducted the regular business " session, after which Mrs. Lester Swain entertained the group with a short illustrated art lecture. The evening terminated with a delicious dessert luncheon serv ed to Mrs. iJaney riawnngs, ivirs. Donald Laris, Mrs. Stanley Hall, Mrs. Floyd Labrum, Mrs. Elmer El-mer Eldredge and Mrs. Lester Swain. ENTERTAINS AT LUNCHEON Adding interest to the social atmosphere in Roosevelt during the week was the prettily appointed ap-pointed dessert luncheon at which Mrs. Eugene Harmston entertained en-tertained friends last Friday. Exquisite bouquets of red, white and blue chrysanthemums and carnations formed a lovely background for the evenings festivities. fes-tivities. Six tables of bridge were at play, providing diversion for Mrs. J. V. McLea, Mrs. Clair Ashton, Mrs. Vean Bair, Mrs. Paul Wilkins, Mrs. Lester Mullins, Mul-lins, Mrs. O. A. Hedden. of Lander, Lan-der, Wyoming, Mrs. J. W. Sitten, of Texas, Mrs. Ed Laurent, Vernal, Ver-nal, Mrs. Ted Tussler, Mrs. Kelly Redmond, Mrs. Robert Huish, Mrs. Homer P. Edwards, Mrs. Lynn Orser, Mrs. Mary Orser, Mrs. Axel Birch, Mrs. Gordon Harmston, Mrs. Lee Harmston, Mrs. Sam Weiss, Mrs. Wayne Malin, Mrs. John R. Bourne, Mrs. Louis Corbridge, Mrs. Parley Lambert and Mrs. Glenn Wyler, Prizes were won by Mrs. Weiss, Mrs. Ashton and Mrs. Laurent. ROSE MEMBERSHIP EVE One of the loveliest and most elaborate affairs during the week was the formal Rose Membership Member-ship party given ' Monday evening, eve-ning, November 22, at the Roosevelt Roos-evelt Stake house by the Roos-event Roos-event Second Ward Junior Girls under the leadership of Mrs. Fay Peterson, at which the mothers moth-ers and Stake Board officers were special guests. Following the theme "Roses," the decorations featured beautiful beauti-ful floral arrangements of pink and white chrysanthemums and roses, ine reiresnment table tur-ther tur-ther developed the motif with its cloth of dainty white lace centered cen-tered with lighter green tapers in crystal holders. Opening prayer was offered by Ruth Wills, followed by a reading, "Symbolism of the Rose,"Carolyn Workman; vocal duet, Janee Benson and Beverly White; reading, "Heart of the Rose," Bertella Swain; presentation presen-tation of the Junior "J" pins, Janet Kelsey; vocal solo "Roses of Picardy," Bonnie Adams; piano pi-ano selections, Mrs. Helen Larson. Lar-son. A special feature of the evening eve-ning was the tying of the rose bouquet by Mrs. Peterson and its presentation to the 2nd Ward MIA president, Mrs. Ardella Rowley. This is a commemmora-tive commemmora-tive event which takes place only when the Junior class has a 100 per cent membership of all the girls in the ward. Each girl gives a rose to the class leader, who ties the bouquet and presents pre-sents it to the MIA president. This is the first time in five years that the rose bouquet has been tied.
