Show BASIN BRIEFS iHAnfMWMW - - - Extension Course For Teachers Duchesne county teachers arc enjoying a University of Utah extension course concerned wnn improvement of reading, sponsored spon-sored by the County School Board. Monday Miss Mary Niel-son Niel-son was lecturer, Tuesday s lecture lec-ture was presented by Miss Hazel Haz-el Brockband and on Wednesday Mrs. Mary Webster lectured The course is proving very helpful to the teachers. Miss Eloise Kay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Kay of Salt Lake City, arrived in Roosevelt Sunday. Miss Kay will head the Home Economics department at the Roosevelt high school this year. She was accompanied by her parents and her brother and sister. While here they were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray E. Dillman. Mr. Kay is a member of the State Fish and Game Department. Evans Phillips spent a few days in Provo last week. Mr. and Mrs. William Jennings of Myton, went to Mt. Pleasant this week to enroll their two sons at Wasatch Academy. Richard will be a senior this year, John a freshman. I Miss Fredericks Dart accompanied accom-panied the Jennings family to Wasatch Academy where she will enroll as a sophomore. Mr Orville Dart and daughter, daugh-ter, Frederick, went to Price Utah last week to be the guests of Mr. and Mrs. B. L, Dart and to attend the Shriners circus. Willis Dart returned home witp his father and sister after spending spend-ing a two week vacation. with the B. L. Dart family, H. Grant Vest, superintendent of Uintah county, schools, was j a Roosevelt visitor Tuesday. I Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Cook I and family spent a few days last week in Helper where they vis-1 ited Mr. Cook's parents and oth- er relatives and friends. Released From Service Victor H. Wathcn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. Wathen of Bluebell, returned last month after serving with the 1st Marine Division, stationed last in China. Victor entered service May, 1944 and received his basic training train-ing at Camp Pendleton, San Diego. He was sent overseas November, 1944 and received further training at Guadalcanal. He saw his first combat service at Okinawa when his division went in on the first attack April 1, 1945. He remained there until un-til the island was secured entailing en-tailing 85 days of continuous combat. All but 14 of his original origin-al company were either killed or wounded. Victor was sent from Okinawa to China in September, 1945 and served there until his release at Treasure Island late in July. 4-H Club News . The Mischief Makers 4-H Club ; of Roosevelt met at the home of Mrs. Glealon, leader, on August 1 28. The time was spent in plan? ning well balanced meals and j menus. Concluding meeting of the club was held September 4 at the home of Mrs. Qleaton. The girlg completed thejr record : books and brought their recipes up to date. Plans were made to hold a roller skating party Thursday at Vernal. . The Model Club of Myton met last week at the home of Mary Lee Mortenscn. The girls worked on dresses and planned a closing , party. The Club met again this week in' cpncludjng session at the home of YIna firum'mett: The girls finished ihtu: dresses and completed plans for a ciosr ing social which will be held Tuesday the home of Fay Francln. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Bacon, of Ordway, Colorado, and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Halverson, of Lamar Colorado, were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs E. J. Nixon Nix-on during the week of Indian Days. Wednesday afternoon a delicious deli-cious luncheon was served to the mothers of the Arcadia Cook and Stir 4-H Club, Those present were Mrs. Merle Ross, Mrs. Fern Zirker, Mrs. Helen Smith, Mrs. Elsie Bird. Mrs. Vera Larsen, Mrs. Melb Larsen, Mrs. Rose Gilbert, Gil-bert, Miss Bernice Palfreyman, Mrs. Ora Holgate, all club members mem-bers and class leader, Mrs. Lorna Holgate. The luncheon was held at the home of the club leader. The Lapoint 4-H Stitch In Time club attended the 4-H outing out-ing at Uinta Canyon. Ramona Harrison, Clista Norton were leaders. The girls that attended the outing were, Maxine Ny-berg, Ny-berg, LaRene Reynolds, Barbara Harrison, Deon Rasmussen, Veon Rasmussen, Geraldine Harrison, Diean Thompson, Shirley K IWarburton, Gloria Schaefermeyl ers, Bonnie Kump, Twila Bige-low Bige-low and Valina Reynolds. Dee Allred has purchased the residence and property of Wilbur Wil-bur Bingham across from the Al-terra Al-terra high school, and has moved his family there. Mr. Bingham has gone to California to seek employment. His family will join him there at a later date. . Return From Trip Fulfilling a desire for a honeymoon honey-moon trip, for which they have waited thirty years, Mr. and Mrs. Roy, Lisonbee returned Tuesday from a three week trip which took them through Idaho, Montana. Mon-tana. Wyoming, Canada and the Pacific Northwest. . Leaving here on August 16, Mr. and Mrs. Lisonbee first spent a few days in Yellowstone Park, and from their thev visited the LDS Temple at Cardston, Alberta, Alber-ta, Canada, Returning to the S'ates bv wav of G1aHr National Nation-al Park they then visited several days with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Doyle at Spokane; with Mr. Lisonbee's sister, Mrs. Lavina Hamilton in Seattle; with a sister, Mrs. Lucy Ayre at Portland where they also al-so visited the Seaside Rpsort. They then followed the Columbia Colum-bia River highway turning off to visit in Boise, Idaho and in Buhl with Mr. Lisonbee's sister, Mrs. Lydia Holmes, and in She, shone with Mrs. Lisonbee'a sister, sis-ter, Mrs. Sam Mulllner. Their trip then took them through the "Craters of the Moon" National Monument, thence to Idaho Falls and Logan .where they visited; the LDS Temples before return-1 ing home., V j Mr. and. Mrs. Reed Allen, a newly wedded couole, spent the past week: at Dr. Miles' cabin in : Uinta Canyon. They returned to their home in Salt Lake City, Saturday. Mr. Allen is the nephew neph-ew of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Allen. : Isabell Roller, D. C, returned Tuesday morning affer attending a twQ-week lyceum at' the Palmer Pal-mer School of Chiropractic at Davenport, Iowa. There were over 5,000 practicing chiroprao- tors in aUehdanee, Mrs. Iya Cole and family moved mov-ed to Price, Thursday, where the children will attend school this Mr. and Mrs. Fred S. Carpenter, Carpen-ter, of Manti, visited over the weekend -at the home of Mrs. Carpenter's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Bracken. They also y raited, with Garld Bracken and Mis. Nora Matthews in Roosevelt. Mrs. Randal Lynch and little Sirls axe staying at the home of Mrs. Lynch's father, Mr. Charles P. Bingham. New Pastor Arrives Rev. and Mrs. R. E. Cure, daughter, Joyce, and son, Jerry, arrived in Roosevelt Wednesday to . establish their residence Formerly of San Lorenzo, California, Cali-fornia, Rev. Cure will assume duties here as castor of the Roosevelt Roos-evelt Baptist Church. . .. Guests At Searle Residence Mr. and Mrs. George Searle, of Roosevelt, have entertained numerous num-erous friends and members of their families during the past month. Among those who have been guests at the Searle residence resi-dence are Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Alexander, daughter, Elva, and baby, Melba, of Oakland, California; Cali-fornia; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Chase, of Rangely, Colorado; Mr. and Mrs. Theo Alexander, of Oakland, Oak-land, California, former Montwel residents; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Caldwell and daughter; Mr. and Mrs. Pete Petterson, Mr. and Mrs, Curt Robertson and three sons, Mr. and Mrs. Marrion Caldwell Cald-well and Mr. and Mrs. Irus of Oakland, California; Mrs. Will Oaks, of Vernal; Mr. and Mrs. Loran Alexander, Roosevelt;; Mrs. Sadie Dennis, Winnemucca, Nevada; :. and. Searle, while attending Roosevelt Roose-velt high school this winter. Mr. and Mrs. Petty of Ferron came for a short visit with the Searles and took their foster son, Jackie McDonald, home for school. Jackie has been visiting relatives in Roosevelt for the past two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Jay Searle, of Vernal, are visiting their grandfather, grand-father, George Searle, and Mrs. Searle. |
