Show The riddle that surrounds the fog bound Pribilof Islands, 300 miles west of the Alaskan mainland main-land is one of the seven wonders of nature. Here each May, on this lonely group of volcanic islands, is-lands, gather the Alaskan fur seals, moving in from the un-known un-known to mate and breed, and returning to the unknown when the mating season is over. Uncle Sam acquired the Prib-ilofs Prib-ilofs in 1867 when he purchased Alaska from Russia. Maybe he knew the worth of the seal herd and maybe he didn'tIt's a cinch that Russia didn't otherwise that nation wouldn't have settled for a mere $7,200,000 for the Alaskan Alas-kan territory. But that's neither here nor there, a mystery envelopes en-velopes the sole inhabitants of the cloudy Pribilofs and that's what we want to talk about. The Alaska fur seal, the most lucrative fur bearer in the world. is an enigma and not even the United States government, to which he belongs, can solve the almost cabalistical life of the animal. The fur seals move onto on-to the mist bound Pribilofs starting start-ing in early May, where they mate and breed during the summer sum-mer months when the treeless barren uninhabited islands are concealed by a blinding gray haze. The fur seal doesn't like sunshine during its breeding season. The mating season is over by the time the first cold breath of winter sweeps across the Pribilofs, Prib-ilofs, and like relay runners waiting wait-ing for the delivery of the baton, the Alaskan seals stand poised for the winter. The early frosty wind gives them the signal and out into the Bering Sea they go- fonto the Pacific tv, j south.
