| Show RICHFIELD LOS S 15 INNING GAME TO SALINA TEAM league leaders hard put to maintain unbeaten record the richfield baseball team lost another ball game sunday at the local park but it was certainly nothing to be ashamed of and now players and fans alike think they have some room for optimism over the teams chances of making a very respectable showing in the second half of the league play it took the highly touted salina salts 15 innings to take a 7 to 5 decision from the local team and it could have very easily have gone the other way and meant a victory for richfield with richfield one run aneada in the ninth inning calvert Calver fc madsen who had been doing the hurling for the salts and later late r played in the outfield met one of lefty dennis fast balls for a home run through the right field f eld fence this tied the score and forced the game into extra innings but with a little more luck it might have been an out instead of a home run or held to a double the baliwas ball was hit bit between first b base ase and erwin staples with a break he might have knocked it down but bit then when it rolled on through the fence iverson had trouble in finding it in the h hay ay field from then on salina got only one hit until the inning when robins lived on an error in the outfield dally bird singled and bill gates gate s brought them both in with a hit to right field the crowd which was not too large for the brand of ball displayed thoroughly enjoyed the game and labeled it the best of the season both teams played heads up ball which pleased the fans no end another encouraging feature was the fact that richfield hit salinas pitchers for 17 hits while the salt sluggers were garnering only nine three of them in the last inning john winkel started on the mound for the locals and aside from being a little wild did very well he was relieved in the sixth by lefty dennis who finished the game in a very creditable manner I lad had it not teen been for him getting tired in the final frame he would undoubtedly have been the winning pitcher |
