Show High School Boys Certified : Potato Crop Given the 0. K. Mr. e. L. Barrett, crop Inspector of 'he State Department of Agriculture, gave the High School boys' Certified gtf) ptato Fields the "once over" Wednes- day July 24th. He with Mr. Darley, instructor in Vocational Agriculture at North Sanpete High School, went through Jay Winkelman's field southwest south-west of Mt. Pleasant and Alma Miner's Min-er's field southwest of Fairview. The inspector reported these potatoes In y splendid condition, much better than f he finds in most sections where they ' attempting to grow Certified pota- es in the State. He says that these hoys are growing the only potatoes in Sanpete or Sevier Counties, but that Sanpete County should produce many aos of Certified potatoes every year. At the Winkelman farm, Mr. Barrett Bar-rett saw what he called a pretty demonstration dem-onstration of the difference between ?oodp otato seed and poor potatq seed. 1 He said that every potato grower should see those fields and the good and poor seed growing side by side. These of you who are especially interested inter-ested may get Mr. Darley to take you to these fields. At the Miner farm, the inspector found a splendid little field of potatoes. pota-toes. Wihout having been rogued, there is scarcely a sign of disease. Mr. Barrett's only fear, regarding i Potatoes, is that they will grow too 1 rge for good seed. He esimated .; wat they will yield at the rate of 500 ; bushels per acre this fall. |
