Show Power Output Grows In the annual report just issued the Federl Power Commission, composed com-posed of the secretaries of the De- partsments of War, Interior snd j Commerce, says: "The electric power industry of the country continues to maintain ' an amazing growth. The generation genera-tion of electrical energy reached a total of practically 88 billion kilowatt kilo-watt hours in 1928, an increase ol ! 126 per cent over the annual pro- i duction ten years ego." ' It is also stated that 1929 will show a markou increate in production produc-tion over 1928, but that the percentage per-centage of waterpovr (generation .ill bt redu.f.rt, while generation by steam power will be greatly increased. increas-ed. Of all the electricity produced about one-third is generated by w:ater-power ?nd two thirds by steam. Rega-ding the greater use steam power the report s.ys. 'The substantial reduction m tne Mst of steam generation by sta-t'ens sta-t'ens niTiier" construrt'en has greatly narrowed, if not overcome, the margin hitherto enjoyed by water-power in many localities. It adds that a system combining, water and steam power is generally the irost economical. The Commission recommends that the regulation of electric rates be left with the several spates, as at present, the Federal government govern-ment to keep hands off except in crses where adioining states are unable to i t,ree regarding rates and policies. The report ci mmends tho ent;r-prie ent;r-prie displayed by the power industry indus-try in building great new protects which, "by their bold conception and advanced design offer convincing convinc-ing demonstration of the pre-eminence of American engineering skill in water-power field." |
