Show Prohibition Cases In a statement just issued .by the Department of Justice it is disclosed that there were 41,100 convictions as a result of criminal prosecutions in Federal Courts alone during the last fiscal year for violations of the national prohibition law. It may be of interest to compare the number of convictions under this law with those of former years, which are as follows: In 1922, 22,749; in 1923, 24,067; i in 1924, 37,558; in 1925 38,4;8; in 1926, 37,018; in 1927, 31,717; in j 1928, 48,820; in 1929, 41,100. These figures are for fiscal years ending on June 30. No figures are available covering the hundreds of thousands convicted con-victed each year in state circuit, county, city and other local courts Whatever may be said of the prohibition pro-hibition law, it is evident that its violators are still giving enforcement enforce-ment officers and courts of the country plenty to do, and it seems probable that this situation will continue con-tinue for a long time to come. |
