Show SUCKING THE POOH MAX'S BLOOD Food speculators and price boost-era boost-era are literally sucking the life blood of the poor people of this country, coun-try, and are paring to the bone the resources of those in more moderate circumstances. And this in the face o war, arid misery, and death! (We see much in the press about' government regulation of the food t question, but we see no definite ac-1 tlon taken by congress to author-, ize such regulation. We read of law officers summoning speculators and going before grand juries, but we look in vain for con-! vlctions and jail sentences. And in the mean time prices of the very necessities of life keep right on mounting skyward. People who live on the noise they make rush into print ami tell us that it is simply a uin-stiou of supply and demand, and that prices will automat auto-mat icully adjust t heniselves when the ne crops are on the market. It is NOT a question of sunply and demand, anil prices will NOT adjust themselves until tiie government Meps in with an iron hand and slams every thieving speculator behind the bars and keeps him there. If allowed to run at large they will buy up the new stocks of provisions as they have bought mp the old ones, and prices will be just what they choose to make them. No one expecis these reptiles to ilo anything for the welfare of their ountry, hut they should no longer he allowed to drag it down to ruin. We can not afford internal troubles vith a foreign war on our hands, and as a loyal American we ask congress rid the government to act, and act quickly. The blood of Hie poor mnn Is dis-Md'c.iring, dis-Md'c.iring, and in its wake will come nrng and anarchy. This must not be and only official action can prevent it. |
