President "Wilson, in a formal proc. lamation, has set aside the week from June 18 lo 25 as Red Cross Week, and has r,. ule a strong appeal to the nat'on to rally to this call and, with practical patriotism, . furnish the means by which this single, experienced experi-enced organization, recognized by law and international convention as the euelic instrumentality for this purpose, may carry on its tremendous task. The machinery for this campaign is now being carefully organized. The Western committee is headed by John B. Miller of Los Angeles, and assisting him are Lawrence C. Phipps, Sr., of Denver; William H. Crocker of San Francisco; Henry t.. Corbett of Portland; Charles E. Pea-body Pea-body of Seattle; George G. Taliafer-ro Taliafer-ro of San Antonio, Texas, and Ford Haivey of Kansas City, Mo. At each Western executive secretary is Lyman Lym-an L. T' ' ce, and the associate secretary secre-tary is Richard R. Perkins. Loinu-inces have been held already al-ready in the principal centers San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland, Denver and Wichita, Kan. At each of these meetings the strongest men in the community have gladly come forward, offering both their time and money. Joseph Tumulty, secretary to President Wilson, has wired to hundreds of the leading citizens in the big cities and has received from them instant and enthusiastic promises prom-ises of assistance.. A definite program for the canvass is now t.eing worked out. Teams are being organized in all the cities, and the "drive," will be just as thorough as experienced direction can make it. That the huge sum will be raised without difficulty seems assured. Of the hundred million, the West is ask. ed to raise fifteen millions and those in charge of the campaign are confident confi-dent that the end of Red Cross Week will see the entire sum subscribed. Utah's portion of the sum is $200,000 and to this immediate section is apportioned ap-portioned $5,000 for the Red Cross fund.
