Show FAIRYLEW Miss Etta Knight of Provo is visiting vis-iting with Miss Verda Cheney. Mrs. Fred Olsen spent last week at Salt Lake. Miss Elva Sorensen is visiting relatives rela-tives at Murray and Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Barker spent the past ten days visiting in Fairview. Harold Mower, who came to Fair-view Fair-view for the Twenty-Fourth, returned return-ed to Helper Sunday. David Carlston, w ho spent the past two weeks with his family, returned to his work at Mammoth Wednesday. Mrs. Lavern Swenson, who spent Pioneer Day here, returned to Magna Friday. :Mr. and Mrs. William Nicholson were guests at the home of Mrs. Jesse Jes-se Turpin last week. Miss Chloe Shepard of Paysou was the guest of Mrs. E. A. Day, Jr., during dur-ing the past week. JMr. and Mrs. Hilden Tucker left last week for the reservation, where ihey will spend the summer. Several cases of measles are reported report-ed this week, and one case of scarlet fever. Joseph Carlston purchased a new auto last week. It is a Dodge 5-passenger 5-passenger car. Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Anderson of Moroni spent the Twenty-Fourth with relatives at Fairview. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Peacock isited last week with relatives ac .ti and Sterling. Vernile Stewart has lately purchased pur-chased the farm of Hyrum Hansen. Mr. Hansen expects to buy a large farm near Gunnison. The stork called at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Olsen and Mr. and Mrs. Orin Barker and presented each with a fine baby boy. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Brady and Mrs. Ira Cox returned to their home at. Buhl, Idaho, last week. Mrs. Caro-ine Caro-ine Madsen accompanied them. She will visit friends in Idaho. On Tuesday, Miss Chloe Shepard, Miss Verda Cheney, Miss Orabell Hansen, Miss Annabell Pritchett, Mrs. Lucile Day and Miss Bess Day, motored mo-tored to Gunnison and took dinner. The Social club met at the home of Mrs. H. W. Sanderson, Jr., August 1. The time was spent in sewing and social so-cial chat. Dainty refreshments were served to more than a dozen ladies. Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum Hansen and children and Mrs. N. B. Pritchett motored mo-tored to Gunnison July 29 to look wer some places that are for sale there. The Unity Girls met at the home i Crystal Peterson Monday evening. The evening was spent in dainty needle-work. A committee was chosen chos-en to draft by-laws and a constitution, constitu-tion, also a program committee. Dainty refreshments were served to fourteen guests. Victor Howell, who was operated upon at the L. D. S. hospital July 28, for kidney trouble is reported as doing do-ing nicely. His mother, Mrs. Mary J. Howell and his brother, June Howell How-ell and C. L. Pritchett accompanied him to Salt Lake City. Miss Velora Allred is spending the week at Salt Lake City. On Tuesday evening the Lalia Swarm of Beehive girls gave a character char-acter party at the School Gymnasium. The evening was spent in games, music mu-sic and dancing. Quite a lot of merriment mer-riment was caused by the unique dresses. Dainty refresments were erved to fifteen. Miss Verda Cheney, Che-ney, Valoria Allred and Orabell Hansen Han-sen were the Beekeepers who entertained. en-tertained. The Ladies' Literary club met at the home of Mrs. A. U. Miner July 27. A paper on Home Drying and Canning of Vegetables was read by Mrs. J. P. Larsen. It was decided that the club do some knitting for the soldiers on the Battleship Utah. A committee to look after this was I chosen, also a social committee. Refreshments Re-freshments were served to nine members mem-bers and two visitors. George Mower, Jr., who was working work-ing in the coal mine at Storrs, was badly burned last Thursday, July 2 6. The inspector and four other men were going through the mine when the inspector struck a pocket of gas with his pick. The gas exploded and all of them were burned. George Mower was burned on the head, hands and face. He was sent to the Provo hospital, where his wife joined join-ed him the following day. James Jensen and Alvin Mower of Milburn were also burned but not so badly as Mr Mower. |
