Show BRYAN AND GOMPERS CLASH. Former Secretary of State and Labor Leader Discuss Prohibition. Albany, N. Y. For more than five liours on Tuesday u crowded audience in the room and galleries of the assembly as-sembly chamber of the state capital heard men of international reputation argue for and against the ratiUcatiou by the New York legislature of the federal fed-eral prohibition amendment. William J. Bryan led the prohibition forces. His principal opponent was Samuel Gompers, president of the American Federation of Labor, who was seconded second-ed by former United States Senator Bailey of Texas. The hearing was held before joint legislative committees to which the ratiUcatiou resolution had been referred. re-ferred.
