Show July 14, French National Holiday To Be Observed In United Stales July 11 is the national holiday of France. In these stirring times when the destinies of France and this country are so closely interwoven it if right and proper that a tribute be paid to France by the people of the United States and that we voice our determination to support France until un-til peace shall have been achieved by victory. In accordance with a request from the committee on allied tribute to France, of which Wm. H. Taft is honorary chairman, the state of Ut.i.h council of defense through its publicity committee requests that (1) The attention of the different churches within our state be called to the spiritual solidarity of this country with France; to our debt to France; to the inspiration of France's heroism; and to the significance to us of our dead, now and to come, which will always remain a bond of union between the two republics. (2) Flags be displayed. (3) Libraries arrange for exhibits exhib-its for all things pertaining to France and the war, such as books, trophies, photographs of leaders, etc. People need not be reminded that the supreme hour of the war is at hand, and that after four years of sacrifice and patience, the French people are still facing the need of new sacrifices that civilization may continue free and unafraid. To make this demonstration a truly national na-tional one that will go over to those who are fighting for us on the other sid?. is the very least that we can do. Th-: time is short to make adequate preparations. Let each community, each church and each organization arrange ar-range details to suit local conditions. |
